1. Power Cycle the Alexa Device

So, to power cycle the Alexa device, you need to unplug the power cord from the back of it. And then wait for a couple of minutes, and then plug it back.

After this, wait until the device resets itself, once done connect it to the WiFi network and see if it is now responding.

2. Check your WiFi Connection

After power cycling the device, you need to check your WiFi connections. A weak and unstable internet connection can lead to Alexa not responding to voice commands.

3. Check the Microphone Button

It is also possible, that while cleaning, you have accidentally pressed the mute button. This prevents the device, from listening to sensitive conversations. 

So, if you mute the mic on the speaker, and forget to unmute it. Then it will not respond to your command until you unmute it. You also see a Red Ring on Alexa when it’s mute.

To unmute it simply press the microphone button, located at the top of the device. And make sure the red light on the button get disappear. After this, give a voice command to see if it now responds or not.

4. Hard Reset the Alexa Device

If any case any rest does not help you out, then try hard resetting. Doing this will remove all the settings and glitches, which is leading to Alexa not responding to voice commands. Go through the following steps to do the same.

  • Firstly, locate the reset button at the bottom side of the device, it looks like a small pin size hole.
  • After this, take any pointed object like a pin or paper clip, and put it inside the hole.
  • Then press the reset button, and you see the blue light changing to orange light. And it might take some time to turn off the device.
  • Now manually turn it on, and your Alexa is now in its original factory settings. By giving a voice command check if it starts working or not.
